In 1937 the Oversize was replaced with a streamlined version called the Senior Maxima (approx. 16 mm wide, 139 mm long).
The uneven-banded Senior was discontinued and replaced with the Slender Maxima (approx. 14 mm wide, 135 mm long). The third major introduction was the Major, which replaced the earlier three-ring Standard.
Initially, the Senior Maxima and Maxima featured a 5 mm wide cap band engraved with raised “VACUMATIC” lettering. These models are extremely rare.
The Major and Debutante carried a 4 mm band version. These early Speedlines featured:
A total of approximately 25 pen and pencil models were produced with this raised-letter band — likely for less than ten weeks.
Shortly thereafter, all bands were replaced with the chevron engraving pattern — repeated lines leaning left and right — which remained standard for the remainder of Speedline production.
